SCHOOL RULES
of Polish Olympic Athletes Junior High School in Kraszewice
by Dominika Osmalak
School rules include students’ rights and responsibilities. The rules that were created in our school give us guidelines on acceptable behaviour and allow both students and teachers to develop in a well-managed and safe school environment.
As far as responsibilities are
concerned, most of the rules refer to appearance and general behaviour.
Each student has to wear a school uniform, and he/ she should wear a white shirt, black / navy skirt or trousers at school ceremonies and final exams . Students are not allowed to dye hair, wear make-up, pierce their bodies and have their nails painted bright colours. What is more, they must attend classes every day, be on time and justify any absences by showing a note from a doctor or a parent. They cannot leave the school building during breaks. During lessons pupils must respect and follow teacher’s instructions, care about the beauty of mother tongue, be polite to others and behave in a safe way. Eating, drinking, chewing gum is not allowed. Our students, however, have also a lot of rights which are known much better than their obligations. |
To begin with, they can have maximum three tests a week of which they are informed two weeks in advance. Students can be unprepared for a lesson twice a term. Everyday there is a lottery of a lucky number. The lucky number holder does not have to write any tests and be prepared for classes on that day. Furthermore, pupils can express opinions on school life and have the right to be treated fairly and with respect for their personal matters. They can share their problems with pedagogical staff and get help and support when it is needed. Moreover, students have the right to participate in extracurricular activities, have rest (no homework, written assignments) during weekends, breaks, summer and winter holidays. Students are provided with any additional help, especially when they cannot cope with the curriculum.

Students are awarded for conscientious learning and social work, special achievements, exemplary behaviour and 100% attendance at school. Types of awards may differ in Polish schools but each student with excellent grades receives the end –of –year certificate with a red line on it. For not following school rules students can be punished by a written or oral reprimand, suspension of the right to participate in extracurricular activities, school discos, trips, represent the school, low mark for behaviour (unacceptable, inadmissible) or even expulsion from school. Although for some students the rules are hard to obey, they are fully accepted by our parents. They teach us responsibility and respect for others. Thanks to them we can grow up in a friendly and secure school. |
